Berry-Anderson Home

Berry-Anderson Home
The illustrious Sarah Hillhouse had the house built as a wedding present for her granddaughter around 1819. By the year 1849, Gabriel Toombs (1813-1901), devoted younger brother of Robert Toombs, had bought this property. Since that time, it has remained in the Toombs family and their in-laws. John and Laura Houpt, became the sixth owners in 1873 after Gabriel Toombs, Laura being his great-great dranddaughter. They did much to preserve and beautify the home. In 1977, the house was sold to Mr. & Mrs. Johnsie Berry who transferred the house in 1980 to their daughter Jan Anderson and Edwin (Andy) Anderson, great-great grandson of Gabriel Toombs. They have continued to lovingly maintain and restore this historically significant home.
